Merry Mix

For my whole life my grandma has made a snack mix called Merry Mix during the holiday season. I’ve always LOVED it! This year Blaire got to experience the magic of Merry Mix too & she is a believer. After Blaire and I had eaten through all the Merry Mix my grandma gave us this year, we decided that we needed to break the rules and make a batch that wasn’t for Christmas. Scandalous, I know. And I decided that I needed to share the magic with all of you. So here is the recipe for your snacking pleasure. Please be warned, if you are offended by high amounts of butter and a good dose of MSG, this recipe may not be for you.

Merry Mix

1 lb butter

5 tbsp Worcestershire

1 tbsp Accent

1 tbsp Celery Seed

1 tbsp Garlic Powder

1 tbsp Lawry’s Seasoned Salt

Dash (or a few) of Tabasco

1 bag of pretzel sticks

2 lbs of mixed nuts (I used cashews, almonds, pecans & pistachios)

1/2 box of Cheerios

1/2 box of Rice Chex

1/2 box of Corn Chex

1/2 box of Wheat Chex

(I used a whole box of Corn Chex and skipped the Rice Chex instead. AND I used Honey Nut Cheerios, but my grandma uses plain. Both are delicious, just depends if you want a bit of sweet or not)

Preheat oven to 225 degrees Fahrenheit. In a medium saucepan melt butter over medium high heat. Once melted, add all seasonings and stir well. Pour pretzels, nuts, and cereal into a roaster. Pour butter mixture over dry ingredients. Stir well. Bake for 1 hour covered, stirring occasionally. Remove lid and bake for 1 1/2-2 hours longer, stirring occasionally. Allow the mix to cool in the roaster and enjoy.
