Catch Up

As I sit here in my in-laws basement with a caffeine masque on my face at 14.5 weeks pregnant I am wondering where the last year of my life went. It has literally been 10 months since my last blog post and I’m not sure what the deal is with that. But actually, I kind of am. So here’s a little catch up of what our family has been up to these past 10 months and why I’ve been so non-existent.

In May of 2019, we stumbled upon a piece of land that we fell in love with. It’s about 2 acres on the west side of town that sits up on a hill with beautiful mountain views. We’re a few minutes outside of town so it’s very quiet and private. My husband works in construction, so building a house was something we had always talked about but we never really knew the timeline. We’ve always followed God and listened to His plan for us, and we really felt that this was something He was pushing us towards. In June of 2019 we listed our home on the market ourselves. We figured we’d start with that, and if we had too much trouble we could always get a realtor involved later on. My husband actually took the real estate course several years ago but never tested because he decided it was not something he wanted to pursue. At this point I can’t even tell you how many people thought we were nuts. When I told people we were selling our house and we were doing it ourselves the response was always a continuous flow of questions of disbelief. Well, we must have done something right because it sold in 9 days. Our buyer was a school teacher and she wanted to get settled into the house before the new school year, so our closing date was set for July 26th. It went off without a hitch. We were in complete disbelief.

My dad and step-mom were kind enough to take us in. We moved into their basement at the end of July and had a bit of an adjustment as we settled our family of 4 and 2 large dogs into a 1000 sq ft basement. It wasn’t easy leaving our home. Our girls had lots of neighbor friends they were very sad to leave and they talked about missing our old house a lot. It is incredibly hard to explain to a 4 year old that we are going to build a new house when there is nothing there for them to see. Blaire handled it really well though and we just took it day by day. Emma had no idea what was going on, which actually made it quite a bit easier.

We broke ground on August 16th. Over the next couple months we waited (maybe not so patiently) for excavation and concrete work and just went about our lives. In October we went to San Diego for a family vacation and we got a big snow storm while we were gone which put us back a bit. After our trip my husband temporarily stopped working and began to put all his time and effort into the house. It’s an exhausting, draining process that seems to take sooooo long, but as the house gets further and further along it’s so rewarding.

In December I found out I was pregnant with our third baby. At this point we really had to trust that this was all part of God’s plan, and that all of this was going to come together. Although the baby was not unplanned, we were also in somewhat of disbelief that this was all happening.

At the end of January we moved out of my dad’s basement and into my in-law’s house. They live about a mile from where we are building, so it made a lot of sense since that is where we spend most of our time. It was our second move in a 6 month period and I was 11-12 weeks pregnant. Probably not the ideal situation, but the girls have handled it like champs and we have had so many helping hands. So, here I sit writing this blog post about what has happened to us in the past 7 months. As I look through the pictures for this post I am shocked by how much our kids have grown and changed in these past 7 months. I NEVER want to wish time away, but if ever I could speed it up, this would be the season for it. We have overcome A LOT in these past months, but we will come out of it a stronger couple, stronger family, and stronger people because of it. And, ultimately, I know we will look back at this process and it will seem like a blip in time (even though it really felt like a lifetime). I’m happy to report, however, that we are about 2 weeks away from moving into our dream home. I’ll never be able to repay my husband for all the time and hard work he has poured into this home. He is making my dreams come true and also making this dream come true for our family. We cannot wait to start making memories together there! I also can’t wait to get back into the blogging world and I am SOOOO excited to start sharing some home decor/DIY projects with you all. It feels so good to be back!!!!
